Okay. I bet some of you (if I even have readers, that is) have actually watched the video before. I didn’t know when it was released since I was out of the loop in the music industry.
Anyway, as I was chilling at my parents’ room (no, I don’t sleep there), I decided I’d go to our local music channel and watch what’s new. It was actually the right timing since they were having their daily hit chart thing. The first song that I heard was Katy Perry’s ET (which was an annoying MV for me, but that’s another story). The next, which obviously ranked higher than KP’s ET was Britney Spears’ Till the World Ends.
My eyebrows were raised as I watched the video. Nevertheless, my eyes stayed glued on that TV screen. I carefully looked at the video’s quality, her dance steps, the lyrics… every little bit of it. Not that I am an expert on music videos or anything, but I just wanted to examine Britney Spears’ yet another attempt for a comeback.
Ok. It was just another dance song. Another up beat that would compete to hundreds out there by younger, newer, and cooler artists. Of course, the never ending message/bits on sex is not gone. That’s a given. What actually bothered me is Britney’s movements. I know she’s not the 18-year-old pop artist we know a couple of years ago, but look at how she degenerated. The dance steps were so simple. A little bit of humping. A little bit of crumping. The usual ingredient of a low quality sexy music video. She danced, true. But the steps were so basic. I mean those steps were for high school students’ intermission number. I could actually top that, if I may say so (no, I kid. My dancing sucks).
Also, I give another thumbs down to the montage of the whole video. It reminded me of her old video I’m a Slave for You. The dancing in an old building with a bunch of hot men and women. The sunlight. The sexy part. Gahd. It was just another music video if I may say so. I wonder what others though of it. I bet critics (the one who are experts on this area anyway) would have thought the same.
If she really wants a comeback, try surprising everyone with an original concept for a video…and something new. She should not just go with the trend right now of up beat RnB/ Pop songs. It gets tiring. And with the younger generations today, she is just another oldie desperately trying to get back in the industry.
Just my two cents anyway. Now I got to publish this because I’m going to return to watching the Royal Wedding. Hands up for Prince Will being a hubby. ^o^
